Fitness over health? Intermittent fasting

(TW: Article mentions ED.)

Nowadays, many people choose intermittent fasting as their lifestyle. They're doing it to mainly regain their fitness and to lose some weight. What often happens though, is that they forget how it affects their health, especially the organs responsible for transforming fat into fuel. It shows that intermittent fasting has pros and cons regarding both health and fitness.

From a biological perspective, intermittent fasting doesn't seem dangerous, because the heart is fueled by fat in human body, not sugars and carbs consumed with food. During fasting, fat is being turned into ketones, a fuel that is healthier than fat. This process happens in the liver. It's logical that the fat-burning promotes weight loss. But it takes time, so fasting itself has to be consistent.

What's important, intermittent fasting is not for everyone. People with heart diseases shouldn't consider fasting, because heart diseases can't be treated through starving, it's dangerous! Another drawback that must be mentioned, is that losing too much weight through starving might lead to eating disorders, e.g anorexia. These, when not healed, can be fatal. So it's obligatory to get acknowledged with how fasting works before starting with it.

To conclude, intermittent fasting affects both health and fitness, being both benefitious and hazardous for human body. Remember, think twice before considering your journey with intermittent fasting.
Have lots of health and progress.
